The Mooredale Lightning Gold 2000 U12 boys' team is in the running to be named BMO Team of the Week 2012 Champion and win the grand prize which includes $125,000 to upgrade their community soccer pitch.
The winning team will also win a road trip to see a Toronto FC, Vancouver Whitecaps FC, Montreal Impact or Canadian National Team home game and a $5,000 donation to the charity of their choice. Canadians can log on to BMOsoccer.com to cast their vote. The team with the most number of votes will be the BMO Team of the Week 2012 Champion.
"These boys come from all over the city and have a diverse cultural and social background," said Mooredale Lightning Gold 2000 Coach Dominic Willock. "While they are exceptionally proud of their winning record, they are prouder still of what they have accomplished off the field in helping to create an assistance program for kids all over Toronto and for the advancement of youth sports as a whole."
The team not only believes, but ensures, that all kids are able to play soccer irrespective of economic means. Through the creation of the Kids in Sports Foundation, the team raised over $300,000 to aid inner-city athletes all over Toronto, with the long-term goal of providing a subsidized inner-city soccer facility. If chosen as this year's champion, the team will direct the $5,000 donation from BMO to the Kids in Sports Foundation.
