What is an RSS feed?
An RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feed is an easy way for you to have content from various websites delivered directly to you rather than going from site to site. An RSS feed does all the work for you by searching internet sites that you have selected and notifying you when these sites have added new content. Websites that offer RSS feeds can typically be identified when you see the following:
  • the word "Subscribe"
  • an orange square icon for RSS feed
  • or the letters RSS or XML
Why would I use an RSS feed?
Many people choose to receive email subscriptions or visit their bookmarks to stay up-to-date on their favourite websites. By subscribing to RSS feeds, you can control your online experience in one convenient location, while decreasing the need for email subscriptions filling up your inbox.

How do I start using RSS feeds?
There are two basic ways to subscribe to news feeds:
  • Some web pages, such as My Yahoo, Google home page or Bloglines, allow you to add feeds and view new content directly from that home page
  • Download a news reader. This is a program that checks the feeds from the various sites you are interested in and feeds this information back to your news reader where it updates the content
In either method, the updated content of these sites is displayed in one location. You can quickly scan the headlines and select the topics you wish to read more about.

How do I get a news reader?
The internet offers a selection of different news readers. You will need to choose one that is compatible with your operating system and computer. For help choosing a news reader, you can conduct a search on google.com or visit download.com or tucows.com
