This report provides an overview of M&A in the packaging industry in 2006, examines M&A activity by packaging sector, and looks at individual transactions that occurred during the year.
“M&A activity in the packaging industry was very strong in 2006, continuing an increasing trend over the last several years,” said Doug Lawson, Managing Director and Head of BMO Capital Markets' Packaging Group. ”Robust transaction activity continued to be driven by an abundance of available equity capital, as well as a favorable lending environment.”
Highlights of the report include:
- Packaging deal volume reached 351 transactions, representing a 5.5% increase over 2005
- Packaging transaction valuations continued an increasing trend in 2006
- Strategic and private equity acquirers were active in the packaging sector
- M&A activity was strong across all regions of the world
