Confusion over Income Trusts Means Some Investors Could Be Missing Out on a Significant Source of Income

– GGOF MEDIA CONFERENCE CALL: MAY 3, 2007 –

WHAT:
During the past 15 years, not only have income trusts become a viable investment alternative to both stocks and bonds, but the asset class of choice for aging Canadians suffering from high taxation, low savings and low investment yields.

However, the Federal Government's October 31st announcement has lead to much confusion and uncertainty over income trusts, causing many investors to turn their attention away from a significant and stable source of income.

According to the team of John Priestman, Kevin Hall and Michele Robitaille, managers of GGOF Monthly High Income Fund, income trusts are set to remain the highest yielding, most tax effective vehicles in Canada for at least 3 years, despite the recently introduced tax legislation.

And with many trusts expected to morph to high-yielding, dividend paying corporations upon completion of the four-year grace period, these holdings will continue to provide long-term, tax-efficient and secure income to investors.

GGOF's President Ross Kappele and Chief Investment Officer Gavin Graham invite you to join them and GGOF's Monthly High Income team as they dispel the myths surrounding the proposed income trust taxation legislation. They will discuss:

  • The implications of income trust taxation for Canadian investors
  • The reality behind income trust taxation and what investors can expect over the next 3 years and beyond
  • How the industry is reacting to the proposed trust taxation
  • The potential impact of income trust taxation on the Canadian economy
  • The role of income trusts in a well diversified portfolio
  • Why extreme selectivity is still essential when investing in income trusts
