Managing a Retirement Portfolio in a Volatile Market Host Pamela Wallin speaks to Gavin Graham, Chief Investment Officer, GGOF in the latest BMO podcast

– Media Alert –

In BMO Financial Group's latest podcast, Gavin Graham, Chief Investment Officer, GGOF, reviews recent market conditions and offers tips and advice, ultimately helping make sense of what's been happening over the last few weeks. According to Graham, the latest market volatility has made “perfectly good investments just a bit cheaper than they were a few weeks ago.” Graham adds that “as you get closer to retirement, tax effective income takes on more importance. We think dividends are the best thing since sliced bread, in fact better than sliced bread.”

A recent study for Guardian Group of Funds by Ipsos Reid found that 70 per cent of boomers plan to fund at least part of their retirement with their investments; for boomers with retirement on the near horizon, the recent bout of stock market volatility can be unsettling. These jitters might be compounded when you consider that 70 per cent of boomers don't feel or know if their retirement savings are on track*.

In this latest podcast Graham discusses:

  • Recent market conditions and events
  • The “re-pricing of risk”
  • What boomers should be thinking about when it comes to managing their retirement income and investment portfolio
  • How retiring baby boomers can preserve their capital and keep pace with the rate of inflation
  • The role of income trusts and dividend paying stocks in an investment portfolio
  • What boomers can do to safeguard their investments during market volatility
