BMO Reaffirms Commitment to Sustainable Development with Purchase of Green Electricity from Bullfrog Power Up to 53 branches to become bullfrogpowered(TM)

BMO Financial Group and Bullfrog Power announced today that BMO has purchased 5,000 Megawatt Hours per year of clean, emission-free electricity from Bullfrog Power. Up to 53 branches in Ontario and Alberta will be bullfrogpowered(TM), including the bank's flagship branches at First Canadian Place in Toronto and First Canadian Centre in Calgary.

“Companies like ours have a responsibility to take a leadership role in the fight against climate change – to go where our customers are going,” said Bill Downe, President and CEO, BMO Financial Group. This means that we must adopt and integrate environmental best practices into everything we do.” Mr. Downe announced the agreement this morning during his speech at the Scotia Capital Markets Financials Summit in Toronto.

“It is part of our Environmental Policy to encourage a green workplace through programs that promote energy efficiency, recycling and waste minimization,” said Jim Johnston, Director, Environmental Sustainability, BMO Financial Group. “With this investment, BMO becomes the premier financial institution on the bullfrogpowered Green Index. It shows our leadership in the area of environmental sustainability and will ultimately reduce our overall carbon emissions footprint by more than 3000 tonnes per year.”
