BMO Dims Lights for Bright IdeaMain offices in Toronto, Montreal, Winnipeg, Vancouver and Chicago will turn out their lights on March 29 in support of Earth Hour
BMO Financial Group announced that it will participate in a scheduled “Earth Hour” event on Saturday, March 29, when it turns off the lights in its main offices in Toronto, Montreal, Winnipeg, Vancouver, Chicago and in other major facilities to show its support for the global stand against climate change. March 29 is the day scheduled for “Earth Hour”, a global environmental event linking people and businesses around the world in a pledge to turn off their lights from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
BMO has signed on and registered its commitment on www.earthhour.org. For security reasons, BMO branches and ABMs cannot be included in Earth Hour but at its main offices, internal lighting will be kept to a minimum and exterior signage will be turned off. Additionally, in leased premises, on both sides of the border, BMO is working closely with building managers to encourage their participation.
“We have an important role to play in protecting the environment,” said Jim Johnston, Director, Environmental Sustainability, BMO Financial Group. “The issue is important to many of our customers, our investors, and our employees. Earth Hour is only one small part of the climate change solution. From choosing Bullfrog Power for many of our branches, to using post-consumer fibre paper for our publications, BMO is working every day to reduce our footprint on the environment and I encourage everyone to think about ways they too can reduce their energy consumption.”
