ST. JOHN'S, September 27, 2010 – BMO Financial Group today announced it will contribute $50,000 to assist the people of Newfoundland and Labrador as they cope with the aftermath of Hurricane Igor.
“We are all saddened by the scope of the storm damage,” said Steve Murphy, Senior Vice-President Atlantic Division, BMO Bank of Montreal. “But we are hopeful that, with a little help from their friends across Canada, the people on the east coast of Newfoundland can get their lives back to normal in short order.”
“BMO has a long history of working with the people of Newfoundland and Labrador in times of need. From the time we were invited to set up operations in St. John's in 1894, BMO has played an important role in building this province – financing its industries and its infrastructure, including the Churchill Falls hydroelectric project,” said Jim Fallon, BMO's vice president for Newfoundland and Labrador. “Last week, we launched a Storm Relief Program to help our customers who have suffered damage or loss of income resulting from Hurricane Igor.”
The BMO Bank of Montreal Storm Relief Program includes:
- Personal loan payments deferrals – various options.
- Personal mortgages – deferral of the principal and interest payments for a period of two months.
- Special accommodations for commercial clients affected by the flooding are being developed on a case-by-case basis.
BMO Bank of Montreal customers are invited to visit their local branch and to speak to a financial services manager about their particular financial needs resulting from the hurricane damage.
