BMO Financial Group announced today that the 44's FC Boréal U10 has been selected this week's BMO Team of the Week. The girls team is now eligible to be the BMO Team of the Week 2011 Champion and win $125,000 to upgrade their local soccer field.

Many of the 44's team members travel from various small towns to play and compete. Their coach says this only begins to demonstrate their dedication to the game.

"The 44's have been together for three years now. They are focused on the team's success rather than the excellence of individual performances. They rely on speed and teamwork to win the match all while remaining humble," said the 44's coach, Éric De Connick.

"The special team unity took on its full meaning on August 11, 2010, when one of their friends and teammates tragically lost her life. The memory of that young player as well as the courage and mutual support of all the others deserve to be recognized. It is with a smile on our lips and a tear in our eye that we see our girls run onto the field with their black armbands bearing the jersey number 44 in memory of a young and talented player and, a good friend."

"These girls have experienced victory and known deep adversity at a very young age. The thread that ties this team together is not only their passion for the sport, but their friendship on the field and the memory of their teammate," said Mario Rigante, District Vice-President, Laval and Northwestern Quebec, BMO Bank of Montreal.

The 44's FC Boréal U10 are the seventh of 15 youth soccer teams (age 7-12) across Canada that will be selected between April 1 and June 30 as weekly BMO Team of the Week winners based on team pride, spirit, community commitment and passion for the game. The winners will then vie for the title of BMO Team of the Week 2011 Champion, to be selected by the Canadian public through online voting as of August 1.
