The Pitt Meadows Rockets U10 Girls Vie to Be Chosen BMO Team of the Week 2011 Champion

Canadians invited to cast their vote at BMOsoccer.com through August 15

PITT MEADOWS, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Aug. 10, 2011) - The Pitt Meadows Rockets U10 Girls' team are in the running to be named BMO Team of the Week 2011 Champion and win the grand prize, which includes $125,000 to upgrade their community soccer pitch.

The champion team will also win a road trip to see a Toronto FC or Vancouver Whitecaps FC home game and a $5,000 donation to the charity of their choice. Canadians can log on to BMOsoccer.com to cast their vote. The team with the most number of votes will be the BMO Team of the Week 2011 Champion.

"When we first got the call that we were selected as one of the 15 finalists, we were floored. This is such a phenomenal group of girls, and to share this experience together is something they will remember forever. They were so deserving of being named for so many reasons, but for us as parents and coaches it was their commitment to the community that everybody was so proud of," said Jamie Schwingenschloegl, coach of the Pitt Meadows Rockets.

Since being named BMO Team of the Week, the girls have been extremely busy and enjoying every minute of it. The team had posters and postcards printed to hand out at Canadian Tire and Save-on-Foods. The Rockets have also been doing a lot around Social Media by creating a Facebook group and urging residents to sign up. Additionally, they had a website created to give people information on how to vote, why the girls were selected and raising awareness on what the players are doing in the community.

Finally at the end of July, the team held a "Soccer Day in Pitt Meadows" tournament which attracted over 100 kids to play in a fun 3 on 3 tournament. "The day was a blast and the girls were equally excited about the fact that we raised another $623 at our "by donation" BBQ that we donated to the Canadian Tire Jumpstart Program," added Schwingenschloegl.
"It's been a lot of fun getting together with everyone on the team and handing out the flyers and postcards to try and get people to vote for us. I'm also really happy that we were able to donate so much money to the Jumpstart program so other kids can play too," said Madison Schmidt, player for the Rockets.
