The BMO Team of the Week 2011 Champions, the Glen Shields Sun Devils 2000, today celebrated winning the first-ever title at the BMO Branch in Vaughan. After two weeks of nationwide voting in August, the team garnered 72,677 of the 286,388 votes to win. Earlier this week players were presented with a special certificate of recognition from the City of Vaughan for their accomplishment.

At today's event, the team was presented with a cheque for $125,000, which will be used to upgrade their community soccer pitch. The celebrating will continue in October when they attend a Vancouver Whitecaps FC home game as part of the Grand Prize.

"Congratulations to the Glen Shields Sun Devils, the first BMO Team of the Week Champion," said Susan Bundy, Director, Sponsorships, BMO Financial Group. "Through their talent and dedication to their team, as well as their passion, they have set the bar for other teams next year. It was exciting for us to celebrate this win with them in their community."

"We were thrilled to see the Canadian soccer community, from coast to coast, involved in choosing this year's Champion."

The Glen Shields Sun Devils also won $5,000 to donate to the charity of their choice. They selected the Canadian Paralympic Committee, and a cheque was presented at the branch celebration.

"The Canadian Paralympic Committee is privileged to be selected as the charity of choice of the Glen Shields Sun Devils 2000, the champion of the BMO Team of the Week contest," said Henry Storgaard, Chief Executive Officer & Secretary General, Canadian Paralympic Committee. "This team's community spirit and commitment clearly demonstrates the important life lessons that sport provides to youth. The $5,000 donation will be put towards helping people with a disability gain access to those same lessons and opportunities through parasport."
