Media Advisory-BMO Volunteer Day: BMO Employees in Halifax and Across North America Give Back
- BMO Employees will be revitalizing the community room at Supportive Housing for Young Mothers (SHYM)
- 6,500 BMO employees will take part in the bank's first North America-wide volunteer day
- More than 500 projects across Canada and the U.S.
HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA--(Marketwire - June 4, 2012) - Tomorrow, BMO employees in Halifax will trade their suits and keyboards for smocks and brushes to help spruce up the community room at the Supportive Housing for Young Mothers centre in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. The initiative is part of the first North American-wide employee volunteer day that the bank has organized in response to employees' interest in connecting more directly with charities and organizations in their communities who can benefit as much from donations of muscle as they can from money to keep their programs alive.
Created in 2002, SHYM provides a safe home environment for young mothers and their children.
The initiative involves 6,500 BMO employees across Canada and the U.S. who will roll up their sleeves tomorrow to give back to local charities and community organizations in this way.
"This volunteer project at SHYM is a truly remarkable opportunity to help an agency that works so hard to provide a safe and supportive environment for young mothers," said Laura Charlton, District Vice-President, Halifax, BMO Financial Group. "BMO Volunteer Day, a milestone project with a presence across the country, will be providing assistance to hard-working agencies such as this one, and I'm honoured to lead the team representing Atlantic Canada."
