CHICAGO, ILLINOIS--(Marketwired - Feb. 21, 2014) - BMO Global Asset Management yesterday hosted an investment outlook call for media which featured some of the firm's top experts from around the world. During the call, the panelists discussed the firm's 3-5 year investment outlook.
The participating BMO experts and the topics they addressed included:
- Barry McInerney, Co-CEO, BMO Global Asset Management (moderator) - firm highlights and an overview of significant industry trends.
- Craig Rawlins, CIO, BMO Asset Management U.S. - BMO's focus on multi-asset solutions and the structure of its investment team.
- Sandy Lincoln, Chief Market Strategist, BMO Asset Management U.S. - three distinct macroeconomic scenarios identified by the firm's investment team.
- Tony Cousins, Chief Executive & Chief Investment Officer, Pyrford International - developed international markets, equity and fixed income.
- Scott Kimball, Portfolio Manager, Taplin, Canida and Habacht, LLC - fixed income markets, developed and emerging.
- Robert Lloyd George, Investment Chairman, Lloyd George Management - equity markets, emerging and frontier.
"This panel brought together some of our foremost experts and strategists within BMO Global Asset Management, who provided insights on the unique investing approaches we offer across our firm," said Mr. McInerney. "Much of what took place on this call was rooted in the discussions our leadership team had at our first Global Investing Forum at the end of 2013. The result of that event - and what is highlighted in our new report - is a detailed map of what our clients might expect for their investments in the coming years as the global landscape continues to change."
The comments during the call were largely centered on findings from a new report, "Secular Outlook 2014-2019." This report outlines three distinct macroeconomic scenarios identified by BMO Global Asset Management - each with its own probability - and its own set of investment implications:
- The West Rides Again - growth in the U.S. accelerates from its current slow pace and reaches "normal" levels. Meanwhile, Europe grows slowly as it emerges from the recent recession, while continuing to wrestle with internal challenges.
- Synchronized Growth - Europe and Japan strengthen along with the U.S., following the tendency of expansive fiscal and monetary policies to produce positive results.
- Broken China - rapid deceleration in Chinese growth is the catalyst of a renewed recession in Europe and Japan, and a near-recession in the United States.
