Photos and Video B-Roll Available to Media for File Update as BMO Completes Re-branding Atop First Canadian Place

BMO Financial Group has completed the final phase of its sign conversion project 72 stories atop First Canadian Place – Canada’s tallest building in the heart of the country’s financial district.

The distinctive blue B, M, and O and the widely recognized red roundel that make up the familiar BMO corporate identity will now illuminate the Toronto skyline from all four elevations of First Canadian Place.

The work on the tower walls began in April 2004, and involved removing, by hand, some 530 square meters of white Italian marble. The letters are each about 2.5 meters high and the roundel is about 5.5 metres high. The surrounding marble slabs, weighing as much as 125 kilograms apiece, are cut like jigsaw pieces into corresponding shapes and affixed – flush with the letters – to meticulously pre-placed brackets. Each logo took about 12-14 weeks to replace. The new logo is made up of translucent vinyl stretched over metal frames.

“With our new branding completed atop BMO’s flagship tower, First Canadian Place stands as a beacon that makes a clear, dignified and professional statement of who we are and what we stand for as a financial institution,” stated BMO Senior Vice President, Robert Bissett. “The now familiar blue BMO and red roundel, reinforces the attributes that are most important to our customers, those of a welcoming, knowledgeable and innovative bank that provides consistent delivery of our products and services and a welcoming environment for customers.”
