Lesley Scorgie, a financial whiz who began saving and investing at the age of 10, speaks today in the second in a series of dynamic luncheons presented by BMO Financial Group and the YWCA of Calgary.
Scorgie will share her personal story and provide helpful tips from her financial management newsletter, “Rich by Thirty”, written for young and old alike. Her mission is to teach other young people the skills that made her a successful investor.
The ‘Power of Women - Power to Change' luncheon speaker series at the TELUS Convention Centre aims to increase awareness of important issues facing women in the Calgary community. Proceeds from the series will support YWCA programs for women in crisis in Calgary to assist them in regaining the power they feel they have lost through poverty, homelessness or violence.
“YWCA of Calgary is committed to the enhancement of women and providing opportunities for growth.” said Jill Wyatt, CEO, YWCA of Calgary. “The Power of Women - Power to Change events are one way we can gather women together to share success stories and offer encouragement for their future endeavours,”
“We are pleased to support the YWCA's initiative to see women advance and grow as citizens and as individuals” said Alison Keene, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, BMO Nesbitt Burns, Alberta. “Given the theme of today's speech, we particularly encourage young women to consider a career in the financial services sector and to take charge of their financial futures,” added Keene.
BMO Financial Group and the advancement of women
In 1991, BMO launched a groundbreaking Task Force on the Advancement of Women which led the bank to establish diversity goals and develop programs designed to recognize and eliminate barriers to advancement. Today, more than 37 per cent of BMO's Canadian executives are women – up from nine per cent fifteen years ago. This important work continues at BMO and in the communities it serves.
