BMO Bank of Montreal Continues its Expansion Plans in B.C.: Opens New Larger Burnaby Branch Metropolis Financial Management Centre also set for major renovation

BMO Bank of Montreal continues its aggressive expansion in the Lower Mainland with the opening of its new Burnaby Main Office branch in the Centrepoint building across from Metrotown. This is one of two new branches that the bank is opening today in the Lower Mainland – the other being a full-service retail branch in Mission, B.C. In the last five months BMO has opened branches in Langley, Richmond, Mission and Burnaby as well as in Kamloops. Earlier this year, the bank announced that it will renovate 30 locations and open 15 new branches across Canada to make it more convenient for its customers to manage their finances.

In Burnaby, the 15,000 sq. ft., two-storey branch provides customers with street level access to the branch and represents an investment of $3 million into the local economy.

The Burnaby Main Office location is also the district office for BMO Bank of Montreal Personal Banking in Greater Vancouver, which is led by Rob Serraglio, Vice President, Personal Banking, Greater Vancouver, BMO Bank of Montreal.

The new Burnaby Main Office branch replaces an older BMO branch which had been located at Kingsway and Sussex for the past 50 years. Branch Managers Wanda MacKenzie and Memphis Hsu will lead a team of more than 50 employees who, collectively, will be able to provide financial services advice in English, Cantonese, Mandarin, Korean, Tagalog, Japanese, French, Portuguese, Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu, Gujrati, German, Farsi, Vietnamese, Fukien, and Italian, mirroring the multi-cultural demographics in Burnaby.

BMO has enhanced its financial services offerings with a more robust commercial banking unit - an additional six commercial bankers will be added at this location to service the small-to-medium-sized enterprises located in the Burnaby/New Westminster area - and by providing a full complement of financial planning and wealth management products and services from a single location.

"The larger premises have allowed us to integrate our administrative and retail activities under one roof," said Mr. Serraglio. "We've expanded our Commercial Banking and BMO Nesbitt Burns staff complements; added Personal Banking district office staff; and established a BMO Harris Private Banking Office on site.

“The sheer physical size of the branch and the expansion of the staff is a reflection of the importance of this community's business to BMO,” said Mr. Serraglio. “Our Burnaby branch has the third largest volume of retail funds under administration amongst all BMO branches across Canada and we considered it vital to expand both the premises and our services so that we can meet all of the financial needs of present and future customers,” he added.

BMO Bank of Montreal also continues to serve clients from across the street in its Metropolis Shopping Centre branch location. The newly renovated BMO Metropolis Financial Management Centre will be unveiled on May 14, 2007.

Features of the Metropolis Financial Management Centre will include:

  • 4 Instabank machines for your everyday financial transactions
  • Financial Services Managers who will meet with you in private offices, to advise
you on tailor-made financial solutions, including opening new accounts, loans, mortgages and investments
  • Wallet and envelope cash deposit facilities available during mall hours
  • Hours of Service are from Monday to Saturday, 10:00am – 6:00pm and Sunday
    from 11:00am – 6:00pm.

In 2006, BMO Financial Group contributed $32.1 million in corporate donations, sponsorships and events to support communities, charities and not-for-profit organizations across Canada. Locally, BMO provides major donations to organizations such as the United Way of the Lower Mainland, BCIT's new Aerospace Centre located near the Vancouver International Airport, Simon Fraser University and the University of British Columbia.

In British Columbia, BMO Financial Group has 3,000 employees and serves customers from 140 BMO Bank of Montreal branches, six BMO Nesbitt Burns offices and five BMO Harris Private Banking offices.
