History of BMO in Yellowknife

The Yellowknife branch of Bank of Montreal first opened on June 16, 1969 with six personnel; the manager was Mr. G.L. McRae, the branch located in the Arthur Laing Building at the corner of 49th Street and Franklin Avenue was a five-storey structure of steel and precast concrete with the top four floors occupied by the Government of the Northwest Territories. It was considered the most modern building in Yellowknife at the time and was fully equipped, including telex facilities.

In the early 90’s the branch moved to another modern building in the brand new Centre Square Mall, where it is located today. This mall is considered the largest mall in Yellowknife.

The new branch carries on the tradition.
