Jamie Thorsen of BMO Capital Markets Named to Hall of Fame for Global Leadership in Foreign Exchange

CHICAGO and TORONTO, June 8, 2010 - Profit & Loss Magazine has named Jamie Thorsen, Global Head of BMO Capital Markets' Foreign Exchange Group, to the publication's 2010 Hall of Fame.

Ms. Thorsen was presented with an induction award at a gala dinner held in New York City last week. The Hall of Fame was established by the magazine's editorial staff in 2009 to honour individuals who have made significant contributions to the growth and success of the foreign exchange industry.

"Jamie and the other five industry professionals honoured in this year's Profit & Loss Hall of Fame have long been industry leaders who have garnered tremendous respect from peers and colleagues."

This latest accolade comes on the heels of very significant awards for BMO's Foreign Exchange Products team:

  • Last month, BMO Capital Markets won two prestigious awards in the Euromoney FX survey for "Most Improved Overall Market Share" and "Most Improved Market Share by Size: Over US$250 billion"
  • For the third year in a row, BMO Capital Markets was named one of China's "Most Popular Market Makers" and "Best Non-USD Market Maker" by the China Foreign Exchange Trade System (CFETS)
  • In November, BMO Capital Markets was voted "Best Bank for the Canadian Dollar" in FX Week's annual client survey

About Jamie Thorsen

Jamie Thorsen is Global Head of Foreign Exchange Products and China Capital Markets, BMO Capital Markets. She is one of the longest standing members of both the Federal Reserve Bank of New York's FX Committee and the Bank of Canada's FX Committee. Ms. Thorsen began her career at BMO in 1977 in Chicago, where she was selected by Harris Bank, BMO's U.S. retail banking arm, to join its management training program. By 1984, Ms. Thorsen was overseeing FX sales and trading for Harris. In 1994, a decade after Harris was acquired by BMO, an integration of the FX operations under the BMO umbrella created one of the five largest FX operations in the United States. By 1996, Ms. Thorsen was appointed Senior Vice-President and Global Head of FX Trading and Sales. She was charged with fully merging the FX operations under the BMO name. At the time, she was one of just a handful of women overseeing FX at a global level and she remains the only female global FX head in the industry today. In 2006, Ms. Thorsen was given responsibility for the capital markets operations of BMO Capital Markets in China in addition to her global FX mandate. In this dual role, she manages 85 professionals in Chicago, New York, Toronto, Montreal, London, Beijing, Guangzhou and Shanghai.
