BMO Congratulates Winners of BMO National Championships Nutrilite All Stars

ST. JOHN'S, July 29, 2010 – Provincial soccer teams from Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia emerged victorious at the conclusion of the BMO National Championships Nutrilite All Stars on July 25 in Sherbrooke, QC, and Mount Pearl and St. John's, NL.

"Every provincial All Star team displayed fantastic talent and sportsmanship this past week," said Jim Fallon, District Vice-President, Newfoundland and Labrador, BMO Financial Group. "The BMO National Championships set a high standard of success for Canadian soccer players and serves as an exciting showcase of talent. We are proud to support this great event."

The BMO National Championships honour the best in male and female soccer. A number of events take place across Canada in July and October. This past week, provincial teams from Under 14 (U-14) and Under 16 (U-16) categories competed for the title of "nation's best".

"The Canadian Soccer Association commends BMO Financial Group for their commitment to the BMO National Championships Nutrilite All Stars," commented Peter Montopoli, General Secretary, Canadian Soccer Association. "BMO has been a valuable partner for the Canadian Soccer Association in our efforts to promote youth soccer at an elite level. We share the goal of developing these players along a path of lifelong participation in the sport, and for some, providing an opportunity to represent our country."

The champions in each category are:

Girls U-14: Ontario
Girls U-16: Ontario

Boys U-14: British Columbia
Boys U-16: Quebec

In addition to crowning the winners in each division as national champion, the tournament provided coaching staff from the Canadian Men and Women's Under-17 teams the opportunity to scout potential members of Canada's National Teams.

BMO and Canadian Soccer

BMO's deep commitment to "The Beautiful Game" is evident from the beginning of the curve with BMO's grassroots sponsorship of more than 500 youth teams nationally. The relationship continues with BMO's title support of elite youth players at BMO National Championships through to BMO's professional teams support (Toronto FC & Vancouver Whitecaps FC) combined with soccer venue title sponsorship (BMO Field).
