Canadian Red Cross: The need for humanitarian assistance is massive and urgent

TORONTO, August 19, 2010 – Starting tomorrow, Canadians wanting to support the Red Cross in its flood relief effort in Pakistan can make donations at BMO Bank of Montreal branches across Canada. Donations can be made up until September 17, 2010.

As announced on August 17, BMO will be donating $100,000 in support of Red Cross relief and recovery efforts.

"BMO has always been a strong supporter of the Red Cross when disaster strikes, and their efforts make a real difference," said Conrad Sauvé, secretary general and CEO of the Canadian Red Cross. "The need for humanitarian assistance is massive and urgent. This generous donation will help our teams on the ground continue their efforts providing aid, support and hope to those who need it most."

In order to assist customers who wish to send drafts or fund transfers directly to relatives or other affected individuals or agencies in Pakistan, BMO is waiving fees related to these transactions until September 17, 2010.
