As part of its nationwide youth soccer program, BMO Financial Group announced today that the Peterborough City Under-12 Boys team has been selected this week's winner of the BMO Team of the Week. The team is now eligible to be the BMO Team of the Week 2011 Champion and win $125,000 to upgrade their local soccer field.

"The Peterborough City Boys team has a lot to be proud of both on and off the pitch," said Lloyd Fleming, District Vice-President, Central and Northern Ontario, BMO Bank of Montreal. "They display talent, sportsmanship and dedication to a very important cause. They truly embody the spirit of BMO Team of the Week Program."

The Peterborough City U12 boys are gifted soccer players who always have fun on the field. In the last three years, they've won or placed highly in a number of tournaments and have been moved up divisions for their success.

"Beyond the fun and success, these boys also play for a cause near and dear to many of us. Inspired by the Kawartha senior men's team, the boys decided to wear pink practice shirts to attract attention to the fight against cancer. The players have since begun to organize birthday party kickarounds and in lieu of gifts, the team asks that donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. As a coach, I am so proud of the dedication and strong values that each of these young players displays," said Biren Patel, coach of the Peterborough City U12 Boys team.

The team is the fourth of 15 youth soccer teams (age 7-12) across Canada that will be selected between April 1 and June 30 as weekly BMO Team of the Week winners based on team pride, spirit, community commitment and passion for the game. The winners will then vie for the title of BMO Team of the Week 2011 Champion, to be selected by the Canadian public through online voting as of August 1.
