BMO Bank of Montreal announced a commitment of $50,000 to the Regional Recreation Centre fundraising campaign today during a presentation at the BMO 2nd Avenue East branch in Owen Sound. The centre will be a "one-stop shop" for arena sports, aquatics and fitness and recreation in the area.

"At BMO, we have a long track record of supporting the communities in which we do business," said Cheri Knott, Personal Banking Area Manager, BMO Bank of Montreal Owen Sound/Hanover. "BMO's donation underscores our ongoing commitment and aligns with our support of sports at the community level. We are thrilled to play a part in an initiative that will benefit the community for years to come."

Fundraising co-chair Tom Rice accepted the cheque from Ms. Knott and David Lawson, Investment Advisor, BMO Nesbitt Burns.

"BMO joins a growing group of local financial institutions who have invested in a better community for their families, clients and personnel," said Rice. "This wonderful gift demonstrates BMO's role as a leader in our region."

On schedule to open in spring 2012, the Regional Recreation Centre will house two NHL-sized arenas operated by the City of Owen Sound, a health and fitness centre, a walking/running track and two pools, one competition-sized and the other for leisure and therapy operated by the Owen Sound Family YMCA. The centre will provide year round access to arenas, improved training facilities and additional opportunities for hosting tournaments and competitions. Children, teens, adults and seniors will all have the opportunity to enjoy the barrier free community hub. It is expected that 65 per cent of the centre's users will come from Owen Sound and 35 per cent from the surrounding municipalities, making this a truly regional facility.
