STANHOPE, PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND--(Marketwire - July 29, 2011) - Atlantic Canada's Largest Outdoor Equestrian Events, the Gingerwood Charity Horse Shows, are back for another exciting week this summer. The events kick off with the fifth annual Stanhope Equestrian Challenge running Monday, August 1 to Wednesday, August 3, 2011, followed by the sixth annual Gingerwood Charity Classic from Friday, August 5 to Sunday, August 7, 2011.
Last year, the shows drew more than 10,000 spectators over the six days; show organizers are confident that this year will be even bigger! With admission at only $5 per car, the Gingerwood Charity Horse Shows are an affordable family outing. All proceeds generated from the shows support a good cause - Oak Acres Children's Camp.
BMO Financial Group is partnering with the Gingerwood Charity Horse Shows for a second consecutive year to develop the weeklong event. "We invite horse enthusiasts and their families from throughout Atlantic Canada to visit Gingerwood and join in the fun, from pony rides to activities at the BMO Fan Centre, to the final afternoon of world-class show jumping where speed and agility and horse and rider are one at the BMO Grand Prix," said Christine Cooper, Vice-President, New Brunswick & PEI, BMO Bank of Montreal.
The Gingerwood shows will have young and old coming back all week long for more fun and entertainment. In addition to world class show jumping, spectators can enjoy daily pony rides compliments of Millstream Trail Rides, learn about horse care at Kids Horse College, meet furry friends at the Gingerwood petting zoo, get their face painted at the BMO Fan Centre and enjoy treats at the Country Canteen.
Competitors from Canada and the U.S. will park their horse trailers at Gingerwood Farms for a week to compete in hunter and jumper classes. This includes the prestigious BMO Grand Prix, an event that demands courage, speed and power from highly athletic horses.
Those interested in watching the competition are invited to come to Gingerwood at Route 25 and Route 6 in Stanhope Beach. Transportation will be provided for anyone needing assistance getting around the property. Show organizers encourage spectators to pack their lawn chairs and umbrellas.
Gingerwood Charity Horse Shows are made possible by the support of more than 100 volunteers from Stanhope and surrounding area. The show organizers believe that a summer camp experience can give a child "a leg up" for life and are committed to ensuring that more than 560 Island kids attend Oak Acres each summer.
