- Players recently raised money for cancer research by participating in Relay For Life
LONDON, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - May 10, 2012) - Thanks to achievements both on and off the field, the Southend United Sharks of London, Ontario recently scored a BMO Team of the Week win as part of BMO's nationwide grassroots soccer program. The Sharks, now competing for the 2012 BMO Team of the Week Champion title, will be celebrating their win on Saturday, May 12.
"This recognition goes beyond the scoreboard and ball-handling skills," said David Blyth, District Vice-President, Southwest Ontario, BMO Bank of Montreal. "The players' involvement with Relay for Life also speaks to their passion for reaching out to the community as a whole. Last season their participation raised over $2,500 and allowed these young athletes to connect with survivors, who shared stories on how cancer has touched their lives. Congratulations to the Sharks on a well deserved BMO Team of the Week win!"
As part of the BMO Team of the Week win, the Southend United Sharks are making a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society's Relay For Life, a fundraising event which raises money to support cancer research.
