TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Dec. 14, 2012) - BMO Capital Markets, the investment and corporate banking arm of BMO Financial Group (TSX:BMO)(NYSE:BMO), today announced that Douglas Porter has been appointed Chief Economist, BMO Capital Markets, effective February 1, 2013.

As Chief Economist, Mr. Porter will have oversight of BMO Capital Markets' highly capable team of award-winning economists who provide industry-leading insights into the state of the global economy.

Mr. Porter is currently Deputy Chief Economist and has more than 25 years of experience analyzing global economies and financial markets. He has been with BMO since1995 after holding positions of Economist and Country Risk Analyst with other Canadian financial institutions, and also working in the Research Department at the Bank of Canada. In addition to delivering dozens of presentations each year to institutional and corporate clients as well as private investors, he is a frequent commentator on economic and financial trends in the media. In May 2012, he was identified by Bloomberg as the best economic forecaster in Canada for the prior two years.

Mr. Porter holds a Masters degree in Economics from the University of Western Ontario. He earned his CFA designation in 1995. He has been on the Board of Directors of the Toronto Association of Business Economists since 1996 and has been a member of the C.D. Howe's Monetary Policy Council since 2008. He also serves on the Investment Management Committee of the Bank of Montreal's Pension Fund Society.
