Looking for Fun after the Fireworks, BMO Harris Bank Encourages Canadians to Go South of the Border to Milwaukee

With Summerfest in full swing and plenty more to see, now is the time to visit

MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN--(Marketwired - July 3, 2013) - If you are looking for a new adventurous vacation spot this year, BMO Harris Bank encourages you to consider a fun destination just south of the border -- Milwaukee. As the world's largest music festival, Summerfest will be headlining through the weekend, but there is a lot more to see and do throughout the summer.

Just around the corner, the streets of Milwaukee will be transformed into one of the nation's largest French-themed festivals during Bastille Days July 11 - 14. Known for its impromptu street performers, interactive and musical entertainment, and its signature 43-foot Eiffel Tower replica with hourly light shows, the festival takes place downtown Milwaukee and is kicked off by the annual BMO Harris Bank Storm the Bastille Run on July 11.

Don't miss the Wisconsin State Fair taking place August 1 - 11, featuring competitions, exhibits and musical entertainment from chart-topping performers such as Miranda Lambert, Yes, Gary Allen, Heart and many others.

Only 600 kilometers from Windsor or a quick flight from Toronto, Milwaukee offers something for visitors of all ages, from great restaurants and the beautiful and relaxing Riverwalk, to the Harley-Davidson Museum, the Milwaukee Public Museum, the Milwaukee County Zoo, and the Milwaukee Art Museum, where works by Miro, Picasso and Warhol grace the walls.

"The summer season really allows Milwaukee to come alive with festivals, music and great outdoor events that showcase our city's adored traditions and landmarks," said Brad Chapin, Executive Vice President, BMO Harris Bank. "Whether you're on a family vacation or just passing through the city on your own, Milwaukee has something for everyone and we encourage our Canadian neighbors to come experience the excitement and energy that surrounds our great city each summer."

"Along with all the fun summer events and festivals, Milwaukee is rated as one of the top value destinations in the U.S., where top-rated hotels meet James Beard-nominated chefs and restaurants, all in an easy, walkable city," said Paul Upchurch, President and CEO, VISIT Milwaukee. "A blend of the old and the new, Milwaukee's European heritage is reflected in our cherished architecture and unique neighborhoods, while we look to the future with attractions like the lakefront Milwaukee Art Museum and Discovery World."

There's plenty more to see and do. If you're looking to enjoy a national pastime, then a trip to see a Milwaukee Brewers game is a must. Also known as "Brew City," Milwaukee is home to some of the nation's top-rated breweries where you can enjoy a couple fresh pints. And don't forget, musical acts perform throughout the year at the BMO Harris Bradley Center and throughout the summer at the BMO Harris Pavilion.
