On Remembrance Day, Give Thanks to the Canadian Defence Community for Service to Canada: BMO

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Nov. 11, 2013) - BMO, the Official Bank of the Canadian Defence Community, encourages all Canadians to reflect and remember all members and families of the defence community on this special day.

"Remembrance Day represents a time for Canadians across the country to honour and respect members of the entire defence community, their families and our veterans," said Hugh McKee, Vice President, Personal Customer Segment Management, BMO Financial Group. "Our banking services program represents our way of giving thanks year-round for the service of the military and their patriotism, and we look forward to serving these exceptional men and women for years to come."

"The Canadian Armed Forces has enjoyed a strong and productive partnership with BMO Bank of Montreal for the past five years," said General T.J. Lawson, Canada's Chief of the Defence Staff. "I offer my most sincere appreciation for this great collaboration which is making a difference for our community."

BMO works in partnership with Canadian Defence Community Banking (CDCB) to offer products and services specifically designed to meet the needs of military members, families and veterans. The program saves members of the Defence Community approximately $1 million in banking fees every year.

About BMO and the Canadian Defence Community

BMO has a long history of supporting national defence efforts. During the First World War, BMO established temporary branches to pay troops at various encampments throughout Canada, and overseas Canadian men and women in uniform were paid through the bank's Waterloo Place office in London. During the Second World War, BMO's president George Spinney headed the National War Finance Committee, which oversaw the sales of Victory Loan bonds. During the post war years when Canada had forces stationed in Europe, Bank of Montreal branches on the bases provided banking services for Canadian servicemen and -women and their families.

BMO Bank of Montreal is the official bank of the Defence Community in partnership with Canadian Defence Community Banking (CDCB). CDCB is specifically designed for the Defence Community and offers cost-effective banking plans with unique features tailored to the military lifestyle and needs.
