BMO Investments Inc. Introduces New Retirement Portfolios to Help Meet the Needs of Canadian Retirees

- The portfolios have three different risk profiles and aim to help preserve and grow wealth in retirement

- Low-fee solution designed to provide downside protection against market volatility

- According to StatsCan, life expectancy in Canada has increased by 25 years since 1921

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Aug. 31, 2015) - BMO Investments Inc. (BMOII) has launched BMO Retirement Portfolios, a series of flexible and cost effective managed investment solutions designed to help those in or near retirement preserve and provide potential to grow their wealth.

The new portfolios have three different risk profiles - Income, Conservative and Balanced - for retirees depending on their specific needs. The portfolios provide exposure to globally diversified fixed income for capital protection and equity exposure and low volatility strategies to help reduce market risk for smoother returns and growth.

According to Statistics Canada, life expectancy at birth increased by 25 years between 1921 and 2011. Currently, the average life expectancy for men and women is 84 and 87, respectively1.

A study by BMO Global Asset Management found that one quarter of retired Canadians are surprised to find that their savings are not as sufficient as they thought they would be in retirement2.

"Retired Canadians have shifting investment needs. They are living longer and are spending more time in their retirement years; they will have to make their savings last longer. This can be a challenge during times of market volatility," said Robert Armstrong, Vice President and Head of Managed Solutions, BMO Global Asset Management. "Our new portfolios provide a streamlined solution; they focus on offering more consistent returns while providing capital protection and growth potential."
