BMO Financial Group Donates $650,000 to Remai Modern in Saskatchewan

Major third-floor gallery will carry BMO name

SASKATOON, SASKATCHEWAN--(Marketwired - Oct. 8, 2015) - Remai Modern Art Gallery of Saskatchewan is pleased to announce a $650,000 gift from BMO Financial Group. Remai Modern, under construction at Saskatoon's River Landing, is due to open in 2016.

In recognition of this gift, one of the three massive Marquee Galleries on the third floor of the new building will be named the BMO Gallery.

"BMO is deeply committed to the arts and culture in Canada, and we are proud to support the development of the Remai Modern," said Ken Fetherstonhaugh, Regional Vice-President & Managing Director, Prairies for BMO Private Banking. "We look forward to celebrating and welcoming residents and visitors to share in one of the most visionary new art museums in North America."

"We are very grateful for this support from BMO, as we fulfill the ambitious vision for our beautiful new art museum in Saskatoon," said Alain Gaucher, Remai Modern Board Chair.

"BMO is known for contributing to the quality of life in the communities it serves, and with its exciting exhibitions, programs and events, Remai Modern will reflect, stimulate, and engage with the arts and culture in Saskatoon and beyond. This gift is truly a perfect match."

"The BMO Gallery will be one of the premier spaces in Remai Modern," said Gregory Burke, Executive Director & CEO. "At more than 2,000 square feet, this is one of the larger galleries of the 11 in the building, and it will showcase touring exhibitions of national and international significance.

"We anticipate that the BMO Gallery will present three major exhibitions each year, and that more than 150,000 people, including families and school tours, will visit them in the first year alone.

"In 2013, BMO gifted Remai Modern with a monumental sculpture by leading Canadian artist Kim Adams," Burke said. "With this major capital donation today, BMO demonstrates once again its leadership in support for the arts. Sincere thanks to BMO for helping us create a vibrant, world-class art museum for this community and all of Canada."
