BMO Brings Android Pay to Canadian Customers

In addition to Android Pay, BMO launches more tools to help customers track spending and rewards in real time

TORONTO, June 5, 2017 /CNW/ - BMO Financial Group today announced it is one of the first banks in Canada to offer Android Pay to its customers. The digital wallet platform developed by Google is an easy and secure way to make purchases with a BMO credit and debit card using an Android compatible mobile device.

"As digital is increasingly the preferred channel for managing accounts and making purchases, our focus continues to be on providing our customers with more simple and secure choices to meet their evolving needs, and bringing Android Pay to customers in Canada is a reflection of that commitment," said Jennifer Hawkins, Head, North American Retail Payments, BMO Financial Group. 

"We're excited to bring the simplicity and security of mobile payments to BMO customers with Android Pay. Starting today, people will be able to use their Android device to pay at hundreds of thousands of contactless payment terminals in Canada," said Pali Bhat, VP of Product Payments, Google.

Android Pay offers a fast, simple and secure way to use a card to buy things in-apps or in-stores — all without pulling out a physical wallet. It doesn't share your actual credit or debit card number with the merchant when you pay in stores. Your device can notify you of your transactions with Android Pay. And if your phone is ever lost or stolen, you can simply use "Find My Device" to instantly lock your device from anywhere, secure it with a new password, or even wipe it clean of your personal information. Android Pay works with NFC-enabled Android devices running KitKat (4.4) or higher.

BMO Introduces More Tools to Help Customers Track Spending and Rewards

In addition to the launch of Android Pay, BMO also introduced a number of new features designed to help customers stay on top of their everyday spending and rewards:

  • Credit Card Alerts – Allows customers to stay on top of credit card transactions with timely account updates sent via email and text message alerts
  • Pending Credit Card Transactions – Helps customers remain in control of transactions and credit card spending by displaying current transactions in real time
  • Real-Time Rewards Balance –Gives customers a tool to view and track rewards points balances in real time on BMO Mobile & Online Banking
  • Rewards Site Single Sign-On – Easy access to rewards redemption site with a simple tap or click from BMO Mobile & Online Banking

"Alongside quickly bringing to market new purchasing capabilities, we've also focused on building technology that can streamline our customers' experience in areas that are equally important to them, such as the ability to track credit card activity in real time from their mobile device, allowing for a more current and fulsome view of their finances while on the go," added Ms. Hawkins.
